All summer assignments for AP Courses will be due on the first day of school to the teacher of the course on the student's schedule. Schedules are adjusted all summer long to balance classes as much as possible to reduce class sizes and maximize funding. For this reason, schedules are not finalized until late July, This makes it difficult in many cases to guarantee that a student will have a certain AP course in the fall or spring until late July. Another reason for all the AP summer assignments being due on the first day of school is that when students find out that they have an AP course in the Spring, many will procrastinate until the Winter Break to complete the assignment, and what is turned in is not their best work. It is much easier to get all the assignments done over the course of two months during the Summer Break, when the student does not have to devote time to other coursework.
