Media Release Form & FERPA Information

Please see below for information on the DCSD Media Release form & FERPA information.

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) affords parents and students over 18 years of age (“eligible students”) certain rights with respect to the student’s education records. Certain information regarding students is classified as "directory information" and may be released unless the parent or eligible student opts out. Examples of when "directory information" may be used include the following:

  • A playbill, showing a student’s role in a drama production;
  • The annual yearbook;
  • Honor roll or other recognition lists;
  • Information posted on the school’s or the District’s website;
  • Graduation programs; and
  • Sports activity sheets, such as for wrestling, showing weight and height of team members.

Please see the documents below pertaining to FERPA.

Additionally, the DeKalb County School District requires that a Media Release form be completed in order to use photos & videos of students for various purposes, including the DHS webpage. The Media Release form is also below.

The Media Release form will be available on Registration Day.
